Everyone knew how the world would fall. As each bomb was created, each one increasing in destructive potential, it was obvious how the demise would come about. But only a few knew when. Those choice few - namely large company owners, important figures, and the general rich population - knew they themselves had no hope of surviving what would be rugged terrain after the war. But they still could save the human race.
The answer lay in their children. Young and full of potential, they could carry on the human race. To do so, they were sent to an island. It was one of the few places to desolate to bother bombing, and was proclaimed safe enough for human teens.
The children were given supplies, taught the basic tendrils of survival, and abandoned on the island. Soon after, all hell broke loose. Bombs destroyed 99/100 of the earth's land, reducing it to a toxic, radiation filled, wasteland incapable of nurturing life.
But the 'safe' island remained untouched. Mostly. Due to some event - radiation in the air maybe? or perhaps something even darker, more sinister - the island was slightly contaminated. Everything held a slight taint, from plants to animals.
Mind-melding. The basic term for what the taint catalysted.
There was a wolf population on the island. One of the few island breeds left. In this, the humans saw no concern.
Until, by some strange event, humans and wolves were being drawn together, in pairs. The first physical contanct opened a mind-link. Suddenly, bonded pairs could see the deepest depths of their partner.
But that was the least of their worries. Two far darker threats loomed on the horizen.
First, there were mutterings of gangs, groups of pairs gathering together in trying to rule the land. A choice lay there. Join there cause, or die for it.
The second threat seemed impossible, but after all that had happened, who dare not believe in the impossible? A mind-meld gone wrong, a murderer, a killer, a shapeshifter. He was said to walk the island, choosing at will whether he should be the form of wolf or human. Deadly, definitly.
With the first awakening of the island, everyones destiny is still loose, still easily molded. High ranks would be simple to achieve, as would death. The community is friendly, helpful even, as they all try to decide whats going on. Come, find the impossible, discover old mysteries, join in on the fun.
