When you first see her, first look into her eyes, you see a very closed off girl with a sad story she won't tell- A haunted teenager with a terrible past. She is skittish towards others, and it is difficult for her to make friends, with her hatred towards her own species, and humans being uneasy with shifters, even one with their views.
When attacked verbally, she tends to keep her feelings to herself, boiling on the inside. She never raises her voice. When attacked physically, she respond very violently, often responding to a light shove or slap by shifting into her second forma and attacking.
However, once you get close to her, you will find a girl who will spill her soul to you and provide empathy and support. Once she finds someone who even appears to understand her, she will try her hardest to become thier friend, but is often crushed by thier refusal.
^^ Not the most eloquent was of describing her, but hey.
History --
Java Rae has a very unique past. She was born in a back alley by a mother who definitely did not want her, and left there, squalling. A couple new to the planet from earth was walking by when they heard her screaming, and picked her up, cooing. Having left their adult child on earth, they decided to fill the gap in their hearts by raising the abandoned child as their own, and named her Mara Rae.
The newly completed family moved out to a townhouse in the outskirts of the city, in a groomed gated community, but Mara Rae soon learned to escape the sheltered confines of the safety of the community and wander the back alleys that lead to more unkept parts of the city. She drove her parents crazy, running off in the middle of the night and not returning until dawn.
She was 13 when she first shifted, sitting alone in a dark ally. It was accidental. Her eyes were closed, and she was soaking up the moonlight, feeling pure bliss. She gave a big stretch, had the oddest feeling of soft heat, and when she opened her eyes, she was a dog.
For a day or so, she disappeared into the city, terrified and too confused to shift back. When she finally figured out how to change and went home she had a lot of thinking to do.
She had always thought she had been human, and turning into the boogie man of her planet shook her too the core. She didn't tell her parents, knowing that they would turn her in wether she was their adoptive daughter or not. Practiced changing religeously, so that she would no longer accidentally change, and so that if did, she would be able to shift back immediately. But slowly, all the little whispers about how 'the shifters will get you if you don't do your chores' began to pile up into a powerful hatred of herself and her species.
Once she could shift in under five seconds, she stopped shifting, even though she found it thrilling. She would allow herself only to indulge herself on full mooned nights, sitting in the shadows as a dog or a panther and feeling the world spin.
Then SEG came. It was a full moon, so she was outside, lying beneath a bush in her second form while her parents slumbered inside while her parents relaxed inside. The seg vans drove up, and armed soldiers piled out and surrounded her house she watched with horror from the herd as they kicked down her door and apprehended her parents dragging them into their van and driving away. Somehow, they had figured out her secret. She shifted into her first form and ran.
Her parents never came back. She waited outside her house for months, dumpster diving in her first form and sleeping under shrubs. But when a new family moved into her old home, Mara Rae realized that they weren't coming back, probably killed for housing her a shifter. To her, it was her fault. If she hadn't been born a shifter, if she had just kept herself from shifting on those full moons, she her parents would have been alive, and she would have a family. No shifter hated being on as much as she.
For six months, she wandered the ranges hating, hating, hating herself and her species. She met a few other shifters on the way, but pushed them away, disgusted.
NOW
She realized what she could do to help eradicate shifters: Join seg. She is going to do her damnedest to get into the seg corporation without getting shot. She figures she can be valuable to them: As a shapeshifter, others will not be afraid of her, so she can find their lodgings and turn them in.
Once more, kind of dramatic past, huh? I don't know a whole lot about the society here, so if anything is impossible, let me know.
.RP Example.
Character: Coralie.
Site: Smoke Filled Sky
Background info for Easy Reading: Coralie is a pup, abandoned a week ago, and is seeking the help of the pack, who lives in an abandoned subway tunnel (Darkmouth).
It was early evening. The clouds hung low and weary, held up only by the crumbling roofs of skyscrapers. Birds chirped quietly as they readied their nests for Winter, who was coming their way fast.
Coralie stood at the entrance of the Darkmouth, shaking. She had followed the Pack scent for two days, stumbling half starved through back alleys and main streets. Twice she had narrowly missed becoming a snack for a raptor, and three times she had to stop and catch her breath to keep herself form falling over in a wave of weakness. A week alone, she had thought bitterly. Only a week, and I'm already fleeing death. That was why she was here, standing at the maw of the abandoned subways, hoping that the pack would take her in.
But she hadn't expected it to be so dark. Coralie hated the dark. Even when she had been with her family, night-time made her shiver with fear. But this it where the pack lives, she thought desperately. I'll get used to it if they are there to protect me. She hated the 'if' in that thought, but she couldn't chase it away. There was a big chance that the Alpha would just kick her out, a chance much larger than the chance that she would be welcomed. But Coralie knew without a doubt that if she tried to live on her own, she would die with in a turn of the moon.
So there she stood, peering into the depths of the darkmouth, quivering with terror and hope. She took a deep, shaky breath and let out a high pitched, wavering howl. It echoed around inside, repeating her message ten fold:
"Is anyone there?... there?...there?... there?..."
